Crida de la comunitat PEN a les autoritats turques perquè defensin la llibertat d’expressió:

17 de juliol de 2017 – Fa un any, l’intent de cop d’Estat a Turquia va deixar més de 200 persones mortes i més de mil ferits. Encara que reconeixem el dret de les autoritats turques a portar davant la justícia els responsables dels crims comesos durant els atacs violents, també sabem que s’ha generat una repressió sense precedents, que a la vegada ha silenciat un gran nombre de veus crítiques.

Des del juliol de 2016, més de 160 mitjans de comunicació i editorials han estat clausurats i més de 165 periodistes i treballadors de mitjans de comunicació han estat empresonats, a l’espera de judici. Aquestes dades fan de Turquia el país amb el major nombre de periodistes empresonats de tot el món i supera la Xina i Eritrea junts. En els gairebé 100 anys d’història del PEN Internacional no s’havia registrat mai un nombre tan elevat d’escriptors empresonats en un mateix país i a la vegada. Més de 145.000 funcionaris han estat acomiadats de manera arbitrària i més de 47.000 persones han estat empresonades i encara esperen ser jutjades. La població kurda de Turquia s’ha vist afectada de manera desproporcionada amb detencions de periodistes i membres del parlament kurd, el tancament de mitjans de comunicació pro-kurds i la substitució forçosa de funcionaris locals.

Aquestes estadístiques representen molt més que meres xifres. Es tracta de persones les vides de les quals s’han destruït en la mesura que les autoritats turques continuen abusant de l’estat d’emergència per sufocar les crítiques i silenciar la dissidència.

Un any més tard de l’intent de cop d’Estat, els centres PEN i els seus membres a tot el món insten les autoritats turques a posar fi immediatament a aquest atac de gran abast, a l’estat d’emergència i que defensin la llibertat d’expressió, que és la pedra angular d’una societat justa.

TÜRKİYE: İFADE ÖZGÜRLÜĞÜNÜ SAHİP ÇIK

15 Haziran – 9 Temmuz arası süren Adalet Yürüyüşü tarihi bir aydınlık ve cesaret anıydı. Dünya onbinlerce insanın Türkiye’nin özgürlüklerini yeniden kazanmak için Ankara İstanbul arası 450 kilometre yürüyüşünü saygıyla izledi. Türk hükümeti ve yargısının insanların bu cesur adalet çağrısına kulak vermesini umuyoruz. Jennifer Clement, Uluslararası PEN Başkanı.

17 Temmuz 2017 – Bir sene önce bugün, kanlı bir darbe teşebbüsü Türkiye’de iki yüz üzerinde insanın hayatını kaybetmesine ve binlerce insanın yaralanmasına sebep oldu. Türk yetkililerin bu trajik olayların sorumlularını işledikleri suçlar için yargılamak  sorumluluğu olsa da, OHAL sürecinde yürütmeye koyulan eşi görülmemiş baskılar ve yasaklar  geniş bir yelpazeye yayılan muhalif seslerin neredeyse büsbütün susturulması ile sonuçlandı.

Temmuz 2016’dan bu yana 160’dan fazla medya kuruluşu ve yayınevi kapatıldı. 165’in üzerinde gazeteci ve medya çalışanı tutuklu yargılama ile cezaevlerine gönderilmesiyle Türkiye, Çin ve Eritrea toplamını da geçerek dünyanın en büyük gazeteci hapishanesine çevrildi. PEN’in neredeyse 100 yıllık tarihinde hiçbir dönemde, hiçbir ülkede bu kadar yazarın hapsedildiği kaydedilmedi. 145,000’den fazla kamu personeli ivedilikle işlerinden edilirken 47,000 kişi tutuklu yargılamaya tabi tutularak hapsedildi. Türkiye’nin Kürt popülasyonu Kürt gazetecilerin ve milletvekillerinin tutukluluğuyla, kapatılan Kürtçe medya organları ve seçilmiş yerel temsilcilerin zorunlu değişimiyle bütün bu baskılardan orantısız etkilendi.

Bu istatistikler yalnızca sayılardan çok fazlası. Bu insanlar, Türk yetkililerin eleştiriyi bastırmak ve muhalefeti susturmak için olağanüstü hali suiistimal etmeleri sonucu hayatları alt üst olmuş insanlar.

Darbe teşebbüsünden bir sene sonra, dünyanın dört bir yanındaki PEN Merkezleri ve üyeleri, Türk yetkililere bir an önce bu geniş kapsamlı yasakları ve baskıları durdurmaları, OHAL’i sonlandırmaları ve herhangi bir özgür ve adil toplumun temel taşı olan ifade özgürlüğüne sahip çıkmaları için çağrıda bulunuyor.

TURKEY: UPHOLD FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION

The Justice March – from 15 June to 9 July – was an historic moment of light and courage. The world watched with respect as thousands walked the 450 kilometres between Ankara and Istanbul to restore Turkey’s freedoms. We hope the Turkish government and judiciary will listen to their peoples’ brave call for justice.  Jennifer Clement, PEN International President.

17 July 2017 – A year ago, a bloody coup attempt in Turkey left over two hundred people dead and over a thousand others injured.  While we recognise the right of the Turkish authorities to bring those responsible for crimes committed during these violent events to justice, the unprecedented crackdown that ensued has resulted in a near silencing of a wide range of critical voices.

Over 160 media outlets and publishing houses have been closed down since July 2016. Over 165 journalists and media workers have been jailed pending trial, making Turkey the biggest jailer of journalists in the world, surpassing China and Eritrea combined. Never in the near-100 year history of PEN have we recorded so many writers in prison in one country at one time. Over 145,000 civil servants have been summarily dismissed and more than 47,000 people have been jailed pending trial. Turkey’s Kurdish population has been disproportionately affected, with arrests of Kurdish journalists and MPs, closures of pro-Kurdish media outlets and the forced replacement of elected local officials.

These statistics are more than just numbers. These are people whose lives have been shattered as the Turkish authorities continue to abuse the state of emergency to stifle criticism and silence dissent.

A year on since the coup attempt, PEN Centres and members around the world urge the Turkish authorities to immediately end this far-reaching onslaught, to lift the state of emergency and to uphold freedom of expression, which is a cornerstone of any free and just society.
